It is not a tourist market but the real marketplace of a city of almost a million people, and that is exactly what makes it worth the trip. The 16 de Julio cable-car station sits right on its edge: it is the meeting point of three lines (Red, Blue and Silver) and the fastest, safest way up from central La Paz, some 400 metres below.
